S. of S. is prepared to agree to the revised

salaries for super-scale posts, but remarking

that it is presumed that a Colonial Secretary

will receive a duty allowance as proposed in 5

on the 1936 file. Wait for the despatch on

the consequential adjustment of other sterling

salaries.

I think we may agree that the revised

time scale salaries should not apply to serving

officers;but in view especially of the high

pensions which are granted in Hong Kong it would

seem desirable from the point of view of the

the new salary for super-scale posts should apply

to new appointments.
